Several of us involved with BFOC are on the board of the Alternative Transportation Committee at the Oak Cliff Chamber of Commerce, and are advocating making the Houston Street Viaduct a major multi-modal transit bridge linking Downtown Dallas to North Oak Cliff.
Right now, if you’ve ever cycled into Downtown, you’ll notice that there isn’t a safe way to enter/exit from the Cliff. After doing some research on the original historic blueprints, the Oak Cliff Transit Authority realized that the bridge was originally intended to have wide sidewalks, and a double-tracked streetcar running down the two center lanes. Our hope is to return the bridge to its original intent, while creating better accommodations for bicyclists.

i think this is a great idea… i worry everytime someone wants to ride their bike from my place to downtown or vice versa. make it happen! 🙂
