Outside the OC: New Bikeshop near SMU/Katy Trail with Bike Rentals!

While riding down Mockingbird the other day, we ran across a new bike shop located in the old Segway store. You’ll notice from the image above that remnants of the old sign are still in place. This new shop is called Fleetwood’s Kit-Kat, and is filled with new retro styled cruisers built by Felt:

They range from $400 to $600, and are solidly built bikes in a range of styles. Kit Kat also offers a bicycle rental program and for $15/hour you can hit the Katy Trail in style. They’re located on the Southwest corner of Mockingbird and I-75, next door to the old Mrs. Baird’s Bread factory, and across the street from SMU. Check’m out!

That is literally across the street (highway) from my office. I’m checking them out tomorrow

  2. $15 an hour seems a bit steep to me. But of course, I own six bicycles……

  3. Stopped by today. Really nice people. They organize a 2:00 Sunday ride down the Katy trail. In terms of the bike rental pricing, my understanding was that it was $15 for the first hour, $5 for each hour after that. Unless I misunderstood, “rentals” for the Sunday ride are free. Something of a hipster haven, the shop is an eclectic mix of bikes, accessories, handbags, clothes, and cupcakes…

I went by yesterday after the Dallas bike swap meet with my 3yo boy. Nice place dedicated to Felt cruisers and mens/womens fashion. They have a few vintage pieces as well. Their Sunday rides start at 2 and go along the Katy and then they stop for lunch and return. I’ll pay $15 for the 1st hour and $5 thereafter to get to ride a Felt cruiser and partake in the fun.

The woman working was very nice and they had a couple of men’s shirts I might have to make mine. I think this will be something new and refreshing for the bike community, not your dad’s bike store that’s for sure and probably not everyone’s cup of tea but a welcome addition if you ask me.

I think they will need to broaden their appeal, at least have some single speeds or fixies on hand as well.

That said their web site is worse than dreadful and let’s hope they get their arms around that soon. Any bike shop will benefit from a strong web presence and theirs is simply awful. No offense to the store of course!

  5. First, thanks to anyone mentioning our store! We just got up and running and we are doing our best to create a unique cruiser bike experience, which is something new around here. I’ve never owned a retail shop and I’m not even an experienced biker….so….give us a little time to get where we need to be. We are working on the website. Literally just got a home page up, so, please don’t judge it yet ;). We are bringing in another line of cruisers which are a little more affordable and we will be carrying accessories to customize the bikes. Bells, Liquid Caddies, Fat Frank Tires, Big Apple Tires, Trik Topz valve covers, baskets, handlebars, and custom seats. To clarify, the bikes rent for $15 for the first hour, then $5 every hour thereafter or $35 for 24 hours and we rent FELTS….no one else rents a cruiser that nice! The bikes are free on our Sunday group ride (first come, first served), which is weekly at 2 pm. We will start up a Friday night evening (8 pm) group ride on March 28, which should really be fun. We will improve the store experience as we go. Please stop by and say hi and we hope to see you soon. Once again….help us spread the word and we will try and do something special!! Thanks…Fleetwood

Actually the site you link to is very different from the other one. I see a one page site now, which is actually a huge improvement over the previous attempt. I’ll be back to your shop.
