Preview of this Weekend of Cyclesomatic

Even with rescheduling the Bike-In Film tonight, we’re still on for an amazing weekend of events, and it looks like the weatherman is forecasting Sunny skies Saturday and partly cloudy Sunday. Events this weekend include:

Saturday 12PM – 3PM Ride the Home Tour:

BFOC member, Kenny Cotton, is leading a group ride starting at the Historic Kessler Theatre at 1230 West Davis for the Old Oak Cliff Conservation League’s Home Tour. Cyclists get 10% off of the regularly $20 tickets, and will see inside some of the most amazing and historic homes in the area, ranging from 1920’s large-porched prairie homes, to mid-century modern homes. All proceeds go back to the league, which is responsible for many of the incredible historic revitalization projects in the Cliff.

Saturday and Sunday 12PM – 8PM: Make’s Urban Street Bazaar

Make’s Urban Bazaar has been an institution in Oak Cliff for a couple of years now. Hip crafters come out in droves and set up shop to show off there wares outside in the Bishop Arts District. There will be close to 100 vendors on hand. The product I’m most excited about is photo group, Photopol.us’ camera straps made with recycled bicycle innertubes:

Saturday, 6PM – 11PM Tyler Street Block Party

This is going to be a blast! We’ve blocked off Seventh Street from Tyler to Polk. DART is bringing out a bus to show off the bike rack systems, BikeDenton is showing off their tall bikes and will hold competitions. The Oak Cliff Bicycle Company is holding Goldsprints competitions (register at the shop at 6PM), The Cube Creative will be holding an art bike gallery show and ride, Studio 411 (former House of Dang, and Tara Tonini) will showcase their clothing lines, Photopol.us is opening up the building at 421 Tyler with the bands Happy Bullets and Boom Boom Box performing from 8pm to 11pm, Mighty Fine Arts will host an art show, T-shirt silk screening will be taking place, and Matt and Rob’s BBQ will be on hand serving some delicious smoked confections. All in all, it’s going to be an evening full of bicycle events all at Tyler Street and only a few blocks west of Bishop Arts. Head that way after the Urban Bazaar for the after party!

Sunday 6PM, The Triplets of Belleville at the Historic Texas Theatre

For the final night of Cyclesomatic, will be showing the incredible French film, Triplets of Belleville. For those who haven’t seen it, it’s the story of an orphaned boy, Champion, who is raised by his grandmother, Madame Souza. Her gift of a tricycle starts a craze for cycle-racing that becomes the cornerstone of their life together. After years of relentless training, Champion makes it to the Tour de France, the toughest cycling event in the world. Alas, Champion and a handful of other top competitors are mysteriously kidnapped by a pair of sinister crooks with hangdog expressions. Supported by her faithful sidekick, her fat and flatulent dog Bruno, Madame Souza sets off to rescue her beloved Champion. An epic adventure leads them across the Atlantic to a vast seaport metropolis named Belleville, headquarters of the notorious French mafia. Lost and confused in the threatening darkness of the great city, Madame Souza and Bruno encounter the Belleville Triplettes, who, in their youth, were a glamorous close-harmony act. Now, these three batty old women are now a bizarre jazz combo. Mme Souza joins the band. At their very first gig, she discovers Champion is being held captive by the mafia Godfather himself! All hell breaks loose, and the chase is on! Do Mme Souza, her dim dog, and the Triplettes have what it takes to outsmart the ruthless French mafia and release poor Champion from its clutches?
