When people think of a bicycle friendly city in the US, Portland is typically the place that comes to mind. If you want to see the model that Portland originally followed, you’d have to look southward to Davis, California. Progressive planners decided to make Davis a bicycle centric place as far back as the 1960’s. The video above was made in 2007, prior to Portland or Boulder becoming Platinum bicycling cities. It’s incredible to see how the city has evolved, and how commuters can get around intersections by going under bridge paths, and seeing entire streets barricaded for bicycle/ped-only use.

That’s amazing – BFOC field trip to Davis!
