We’re so excited to see all of the new (and old) groups coming out and advocating for bicycling in DFW. It seems like a new ride is being announced every other day. It’s a very positive sign for the greater development of bicycle culture in our city. To highlight a few (though I’m sure we’ll miss them all), here’s some we’ve been turned on to recently:
75208 – A group of fellow BFOCer’s headed up by Colin Clarke that hold regular Sunday pubcrawl rides that start at 6PM. Very casual and lots of fun. Colin has also headed up some of the Dallas Critical Mass rides as well.
Bike Denton – These guys hold semi-regular rides throughout Denton. Headed by a good friend, Howard Draper, who is now working with the University and City Council to develop bicycle infrastructure.
OCOFOB – or “the Oak Cliff Old Farts On Bikes” Group. These guys have been around a while, and hold an annual 62 mile night-time marathon, so not for the faint of heart. Average age is 57 according to the link.
Fleetwood’s Kit Kat – Owner, Fleetwood, typically hosts 2 free weekly rides. They offer free bikes on a first come first serve basis. The rides usually begin on the Katy Trail.
Richardson Urban Bicycle Club – Headed up by Carl Dill (former Cliffdweller) , with group rides most Thursday’s. Meet at Big Shucks on the SE Corner of Beltline and Coit in front of Whole Foods between 7PM and 8PM. Start riding around 8ish to destinations fun, exciting and usually alcohol filled. Ages 21 and up only.
Oak Cliff Spandex Ride – Headed up by BFOC co-founder, Jon Fontenot, this is a group for people in the Dallas/Fort Worth area that would like to ride at a medium pace as a group through the streets of Dallas. Meet Sundays starting July 12th at 7:00 am, leaving at 7:30 am in front of Cafe Brazil Bishop Arts (corner of Bishop and Davis in Oak Cliff). Come out and make fun of Jon’s pants.
