Dallas Wins “Streetsies” Award for Bike Plan and Streetcar

Just read the post by Unfair Park regarding DC’s StreetsBlogs…looks like Dallas received a “Streetsie” award for its recent Bike Plan and Streetcar initiatives.  They’re going as far as to call us the “Next Portland”. That’s a pretty bold proclamation given that Portland just passed a $600 Million Dollar expansion of their bike plan, but hopeful nonetheless.

Of particular note is that the author stated that they’ve overheard DOT officials “gush” that the OC streetcar project is the most innovative effort that they’re funding.  Looks like we have a lot to look forward in 2011.

A few years ago we were the worst city (Dallas) for cycling, and now we’re (DFW) the next Portland? Amazing what can be accomplished when people put their minds to it. A certain magazine needs to plan to update their view of us some time this year.

And hats off to all the folks who deserve the credit for the many accomplishments we’ve seen the last couple of years.

  2. It’s nice to hear Dallas and especially Oak Cliff spoken in this light. Certainly coming from DOT, that’s big!
