Dallas police ticketing bicyclists without helmets
Heads up out there…we’re getting several emails about Dallas police ticketing riders for not wearing helmets. The fine is a staggering $147! Ironically, motorcyclists are allowed to ride without helmets…don’t try to find an explanation. Sadly, this is the quickest way to lower ridership in our city. A friend of BFOC spoke to us this […]
Boston enjoying new bicycle renaissance
(Nicole Freedman, Boston’s new Bike Czar) Two years ago, Boston faced the same doldrums Dallas currently does in regards to bicycle facilities. There was little movement from city officials advocating bike infrastructure, anti-bike lane groups were shouting their misguided and biased “Bike lanes are death traps” argument, and ridership levels were the same that we […]

The January 2009 issue of “Oregon Business”, wrote a cover story on the highly successful bicycle industry which has grown throughout Portland since the advent of bicycle infrastructure. DART rolled out its newest trains a few months back, called SLRV’s. These have several enhancements including ground level entrance for better ADA compliancy, and two bike hooks per car! This clip is from the documentary, “Contested Streets”, put out by Transportation Alternatives in New York. When advocating for better bike facilities in North Texas, we often hear: “We’re Dallas, […]

BFOC in Oak Cliff’s 2009 Mardi Gras Parade
Thanks to all who were able to make it out to the Mardi Gras Parade in Bishop Arts yesterday. We had a great showing. It was amazing to see members from 5 to 65 years old decked out in orange wheeling down Bishop, all promoting the Bicycle Oak Cliff message!
Outside the OC: New Bikeshop near SMU/Katy Trail with Bike Rentals!
While riding down Mockingbird the other day, we ran across a new bike shop located in the old Segway store. You’ll notice from the image above that remnants of the old sign are still in place. This new shop is called Fleetwood’s Kit-Kat, and is filled with new retro styled cruisers built by Felt: They […]
